14日に秋葉原で開催された、リアルドライビングシミュレーター『グランツーリスモ』のユーザー参加イベント「Akiba Grand Prix」。ソニー・コンピュータエンタテインメント（SCE）製携帯ゲーム機PlayStation Portable用として、10月1日に発売された同ゲームを扱ったイベントだ。
Akiba Grand Prixでは自分のものではなく会場に用意されているPSPを使用するのだが、まず、キー設定がデフォルト仕様から変更不可という恐るべき事実が判明したのだ。記者はPSPの前部左右にあるRボタンをアクセル、同じくL ボタンをブレーキに変更して遊んでいるので（普通は○か×がアクセル、□がブレーキ）、音速で操作に自信がなくなる。
比較的シンプルなレイアウトの筑波サーキットが舞台だったが、凄腕ドライバーはおろか他のプレイヤーにも太刀打ちできず、完走で手一杯。あまい夢は夢のままに終わり、現実は負けを示す黒いハンコがカードに5つ並んだのであった。結局、参加賞も5大中4台を持っていたので、この日は特製マフラーと1台のデータのみをゲット。これで、記者のAkiba Grand Prixへの参戦は終了となった。
